Lucas Hedges Talks to the Hollywood Reporter

Lucas talks about working with Julia on their new film Ben is Back.

You’ve worked with two of the best actresses in the industry today — Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman. What do they have in common?

They’re both technically great actors. The thing that makes them special is that they have enormous capacity to care about other people. I can’t spend an hour with either of them without getting a sense of what’s going on with their families. I really think they’ve rooted their lives in something really healthy and special. They don’t live to be actresses, they live to be people. The key ingredient, I think, is their capacity for love and the ability to create a family.

Julia Roberts Jokes About Reuniting with My Best Friend’s Wedding Costar Dermot Mulroney

Reunited and it feels so good!

It’s been five years since Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney last shared a screen together, but the real life pals didn’t have any trouble finding their on-screen chemistry again!

“There is no ‘dusting off,’ ” Roberts, 50, told reporters at the Los Angeles premiere of their new series Homecoming on Wednesday. “It is so great.”

Catching sight of Mulroney, 54, on the press line, the actress remarked, “I’m talking about you! Are you talking about me?!”

“I was telling them that we had to make sure that we had all of our nuts and bolts in the same place,” he replied, having clearly just been asked a similar question.

“We always have our nuts in the same place, but not always the bolts,” she quipped.

The pair first played opposite of each other in 1997’s My Best Friend’s Wedding before reuniting for 2013 film August: Osage County.

Opening up about the pair’s close relationship, Mulroney told PEOPLE last month that “after this many years, I don’t make the habit of hanging out in other people’s trailers, other people’s dressing rooms, with one exception.”

“We’ve both been at it for a while and have had the great fortune of working together now — it’s our third time,” he remarked, while attending the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, adding that it was “a privilege” to work with her again.

In Homecoming, a psychological thriller series, Roberts plays Heidi Bergman, a caseworker at a secret government facility, while Mulroney plays Anthony, her boyfriend.

Mulroney previously told PEOPLE that despite her superstar level of fame, he wasn’t intimidated by Roberts when he first met her during an audition for My Best Friend’s Wedding.

“To be honest with you, I’d never seen her in a movie previous to that either,” Mulroney remarked. “But we all knew she was a star when we laid eyes on her when she was a teenager in her first movies, Mystic Pizza, Pretty Woman. I never saw those movies until after I worked with her years later.”

Their off-screen relationship has remained strong even decades later.

“I’ve had a great friendship with her and would push these guys out of the way to say something nice about her,” Mulroney shared.

Homecoming arrives on Amazon Prime Nov. 2.

Julia Roberts: How ‘Homecoming’ Co-Star ‘Saved Her Life’ on First Day of Shooting

It’s not every day one can say they once saved Julia Roberts’ life.

But her “Homecoming” costar Shea Whigham can.

“Did she tell you how I saved her life?” Whigham asked Variety Wednesday night at the Amazon series’ premiere in Los Angeles.

The two were shooting a scene together on the first day of production when Whigham saw a flag — a large piece of fabric in a metal frame used to block the sun during filming — above them come loose from its base.

“It started flying toward her head and I didn’t really know her at the time and I had to jump in and sort of envelop her, which was really kind of weird. She was like, ‘What the hell?’ and then she saw the flag on the ground.”

Roberts confirms the incident.

“He did save my life,” the Oscar winner told Variety. “I do say he saved my life but if someone put my feet to the fire and ask, ‘Did he save your life?,’ I’d say, ‘He at least saved me a trip to the hospital.’”

Showrunner and director Sam Esmail said he watched it all go down on a monitor. “At first I wanted to yell at Shea,” he said. “He kind of jumped on her, but then I saw the flag.”

In lighter news from the set, Esmail revealed that he and Roberts enjoyed playing board games together.

“She great at mahjong and Anomia,” he said. “She got me hooked on mahjong.”

“Homecoming” starts streaming on Amazon on Nov. 2.

‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ Costars Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney Discuss Their Close Friendship and New Show

US Weekly spoke with Julia and Dermot and talked about their new series and the friendship they share.

Reunited and it feels so good! Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney enjoy working together as much as fans love watching them — and luckily for Us, they’ve reunited for a new series.

The beloved costars spoke about their special friendship at the Television Critics Association Amazon Prime Sessions, where they were promoting their new show, Homecoming.

“My Best Friend’s Wedding was super fun. That’s really when we became best pals,” the Pretty Woman star, 50, told reporters on Saturday, July 28. “That has a place in my heart for sure.”

Besides the famous 1997 chick flick — where Roberts played Julianne Potter, the besotted best friend of Mulroney’s Michael O’Neal — the two also starred together in August: Osage County as near in-laws. During the panel, the Notting Hill actress joked that it “only took 30 years” for Mulroney to actually play her boyfriend in the Amazon series about a caseworker at a government facility.

“Yes, Sam takes all the credit. He was like, ‘Oh, I have a good idea about a pair,’” Roberts quipped. “How about Julia and Dermot? I bet that would be a good match.”

Mulroney, 54, took the opportunity to gush about the Oscar winner during the panel. “It’s always been such a privilege to work with Julia. When I was first cast with her, I was just thinking these three jobs — even in this where I have a more modest-sized role in the narrative — I’ve had incredible scenes with this incredible actor. She happens to be my best friend and all of that’s been pretty well-chronicled I think,” he told the audience. “This would be a privilege for any actor to work with her in material like this … I’m so grateful to be here at all.”

“Did you get all that? About how grateful I am to have a buddy like Jules and to get these great scenes?” The Wedding Date star continued, before concluding, “Incredible experiences I’ve had with her.”

Homecoming will debut Friday, November 2, on Amazon Prime Video.
